A lot of internet users through the world like to have a better and faster internet connection. This is specially related to the users which still use an old connections like 56k modems (yes, there’re still many of them) and slower cable or broadband internet connections.
Most of these users wants to have a better and faster connection. Many of them like it to be stable and effective. Applying this little trick can save you a lot of nerves and may improve your internet connection speed and overall response time of it. Below, I’ll tell you how and why.
DNS Servers
Domain Name System (DNS) is a naming system mostly used to determine the binary format domain names to the more user-friendly one. It translate you an unique non-friendly URL or IP to the format you’re more friendly with.
This can take some time for your connection to determine and know the exact DNS server of every website address on the internet you’re looking for. Speeding up this process can speed up and improve your browsing experience for sure.
Boost your DNS Speed
You can easily boost and improve your DNS detection and speed using the Open DNS service. This is a service which would give you a free DNS servers which you can use worldwide at very high speed.
I should note you that this is specially useful service for the USA and Canada citizens, because these servers are mainly stored in the United States or Canada.
Anyway, if you experience a slow speed of your internet connection, here how you can change it:
Note: I’ve used the new Windows 7 operating system for this test! You can do this in all Windows operating systems, but not right from the same place.
- Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections
- Right-click on your active connection and open Properties
- From the new window double-click on the IPv4 protocol item
- From that window, check Use the following DNS server addresses
- As Preferred DNS server type: 208.67.222.222
- As Alternative DNS server type: 208.67.220.220
- Press OK
Step-by-Step Guide
Below, I’ll display the above steps followed by the pictures to help you how to setup your DNS servers properly.
Open DNS is a completely free service available internationally. If you don’t live in the USA or Canada you can try out with these DNS servers for your connection. For me, these are even faster than my own ISP DNS servers. They’re little slower to the local sites but I have a much better access to sites in the America.
I should note you that this service has a free account registration where you can register completely for free and do some advanced customizations and logs for all your connections. Also, you can choose the protection strait from the DNS servers to block the unwanted visitors and hackers.
I absolutely recommend you to try out these servers. I hope that they’ll work for your connection too. Feel free to post any feedbacks or information using our comments below.
