Before couple years ago, screensavers were very important for our CRT monitors. They have meant to be some kind of protective shield for our monitors. Actually, they were protecting our monitor’s pixels not to black-out or damage by showing a dynamic animations constantly once computer stood idle.
Today, screensavers are not important as they do before. Anyway, they can be used today to show some interesting and creative animations on your display. I will show you my favorite and best ways to use a screensaver on modern computers today!
Digg Labs Screensavers
Digg Labs have a collection of tools which can be very useful for you! Especially if you use this social network actively, or to find what is hot on the internet in real-time! Screensavers are available for four tools: Stack, Swarm, Bigspy and Arc. All screensavers are available for Windows and Mac systems.
MappedUp
This effective screensaver shows RSS feed sources on world map. Feed updates are presented as green dots, displaying where they are published and when. This is a good way to show latest news through the world in real-time as your screensaver! Available for Windows and Mac OS X systems.
GeocoEarth
GeocoEarth is live timeline screensaver showing your updates from Twitter, Facebook and FFFFound right on your computer. It is currently in public beta stage but on my computer works good after installation. Works on Windows and Mac systems.
Twingly Screensaver
Twingly screensaver is visualizing the global blog activity in real time. Forget RSS readers where you see only what you’re interested in. With Twingly screensaver you get a 24/7 stream of all (viewer discretion advised) blog activity, straight to your screen. Works on Windows only!
Fliqlo – Simple Clock
Fliqlo is a simple old-school clock which shows you real-time as your screensaver in nice and stylish way. Available for Windows and Mac OS X systems. One of my favorites I have to say!
UniqLock
This is the most creative and unique screen saver I have seen lately. Japanese girls dance focusing your attention away from the passing time. Good, interesting, original and unique – UniqLock! Includes a few interesting contents which you can download. Works on Windows and Mac OS!
Really Slick Screensavers
I have listed these screensavers here because you would get 10 visually attractive screensavers using OpenGL engine. Some of these screensavers would work on other systems like Mac OS or even on Linux operating system. They simply looks very good!
Loopy Screensaver
Randomly see the newest pictures which people all over the world uploaded and if you want to check them more, just click the thumbnails and go to Flickr’s pages. A very good and effective internet-based screensaver which works pretty good actually! Available for Windows and Mac OS.
